Based in the Southern Hemisphere

‘AUSTRALIS’ is a steel hulled, fully rigged motor sailor registered as a commercial – Category 0 (zero – Unrestricted) vessel. She carries a comprehensive range of safety, operational and navigational equipment. A 180hp Gardner diesel engine powers the vessel and she is equipped with 2 zodiac tenders. She sails beautifully and has a powerful engine to push her along at 8+ knots when needed.

Waterline

At 23m (75′) and with either a full set of sails up or the powerful 180hp Gardiner engine pushing her along the vessel offers a wonderful sailing experience or a quick passage if time is of the essence.

Under way

‘Australis’ is a motor sailor and will always travel under motor with sail assisted. Full safety rails make her a very safe craft in rough weather and for less experienced sailors.

Navigation

‘Australis’ is equipped with state of the art navigation, GPS, radar, hydrographic and communication equipment allowing us to travel in the most remote waters on the planet.

Saloon

The generous saloon table seats 12 in comfort and share the days exciting stories. There is also a media centre to watch documentaries or view each others photos.

Galley

The galley is very much part of the social area and is much like a standard household kitchen with modern appliances. Bon appetit…

Galley

Cooktop, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle/jug, double sink with hot and cold running water. There’s a day fridge in the galley plus three full sized fridge/freezers on board. Bon appetit…

Forecastle

Loads of storage space!! This area has 2.5m headroom and ample storage for specialist or bulky equipment. This area has room for items up to 4.4m long. There’s a lifting rig available for lifting heavy items into this hold.

Up top

A crows nest at the first spreaders offers a safe position for photography and wildlife spotting.

Bathroom

There is a seperate bathroom for passengers which is spacious, clean and light. It includes a seperate shower and a standard marine toilet.

Double and single cabins

‘Australis’ has three cabins of three and one of two. With a maximum of 9 passengers this means there’ll be a spare bunk for storage. The lower double beds have timber dividers for those who don’t want to get too friendly. All bunks have removable sides for rough weather.

Cargo hatch

The forward cargo hatch has an opening hatch size of 2.6 metres x 2.2 metres… so we can load some seriously large pieces of equipment!

Being custom made for high latitude voyages ‘Australis’ is well proven in heavy ice conditions, even breaking ice on occasions.

Aussie BBQ

An essential part of equipment onboard ‘Australis’ is the Aussie BBQ, providing wholesome meals, good fun and often solutions to the worlds greatest problems… all with a beer in hand.

On Deck

Solid safety rails all round provide a safe and comfortable deck area. The cockpit area is fitted with cradles for single and double sea kayaks when required.
